If man is a wolf to man, Lupo Spaccaro seeks to ease tensions by placing humanity at the core of his creative process. Straddling the edges of electronic galaxies and hip-hop, blending futuristic funk with transcendent jazz, the project envisioned by multi-instrumentalist Pierre Spataro explores the theme of duality through an open-ended instrumental framework.
Known for his collaborations with Reinel Bakole and Kuna Maze, as well as his work as an arranger for Belgian national radio and television, Spataro has been a key player in Brussels’ new electronic scene alongside Commander Spoon. Now, he embarks on a solo journey.
Lupo Spaccaro was crafted in motion between London, Amsterdam, and Brussels. At the crossroads of these European metropolises, Spataro embarked on an introspective and slightly mystical odyssey shaped by his Sicilian immigrant roots, the decline of industrialization, and a deep connection to the landscapes between the North Sea and the Mediterranean.
A fictional persona, an emotional alter ego, Lupo Spaccaro exists between dream and reality. Inspired by past lives, the behavior of wolves—social creatures often perceived as solitary—and his Italian heritage, Spaccaro’s identity is rooted in duality. In Italian, “spaccare” means both “to break” and to express pure excitement and exhilaration.
Born from solitude yet nurtured by a pack of independent musicians, Lupo Spaccaro’s debut EP was crafted with the support of Shungu (production), Jeremy Debuysschere (bass, Jean-Paul Groove), and Lorenzo Ola Kobina (keys, Commander Spoon, ). A fluid, shape-shifting work guided by Spataro’s signature groove and levitating saxophone, the EP embraces the intergalactic jazz explorations of Sun Ra while echoing the futuristic sounds of Big Dada, Warp, and Brainfeeder.
Mixed at Pink Bird Studios in East London, this debut release finds its visual identity in an artwork first sketched on rolling papers. Best enjoyed with a clear head.
